FAQ
Common questions
How many bricks are in a square metre?+
UK standard bricks (215×102.5×65 mm) lay at ~60 per m² of single-skin wall, including the 10 mm mortar joint. US modular bricks lay at ~65 per m² (≈6.0 per ft²).
How many concrete blocks per square metre?+
100 mm UK blocks (440×215 mm face) lay at 10/m². 200 mm (8″) US blocks lay at ~12.5/m² (~1.125 per ft²).
What waste factor should I use for bricks?+
Plan for 5% on simple flat walls, 7–10% on walls with returns and openings, and up to 15% for cut-heavy decorative bonds.
Does this include mortar?+
Yes — the tool estimates ~0.022 m³ of mortar per m² of brick wall (single skin, 10 mm joints). Block walls use less; reduce by ~40% for 100 mm blockwork.
Single skin or cavity wall?+
Quantities shown are for a single skin (½ brick / one wythe). For a cavity wall double the count plus add ties and insulation.
